“A man will never love you or treat you as well as a store and a store always smells good” is an opening line in Confessions of a Shopaholic, a chick flick romantic comedy DVD. I guess (the verb, not the jeans) Becky Bloomwood does not shop at Wal Mart or Canadian Tire (insert big chain U.S. store name here). Confessions of a Shopaholic is a fun to watch fresh and bubbly comedy a guy will not mind watching.
Confessions of a Shopaholic is a somewhat predictable romantic comedy with some surprisingly original comedic moments. If you can’t figure out who the guy at the hot-dog stand will turn out to be, you have not watched a chick comedy DVD in a long time. The movie works because of the Rebecca Greenwood and Luke Brandon (Isla Fisher and Hugh Dancy) characters and the chemistry between the two actors. Fisher is also very good at physical comedy and playing the bubbly somewhat ditzy young woman.
Fisher plays a young severely maxed out young woman on every debt collector’s list who accidentally gets a job writing for a finance magazine. Dancy plays the editor who takes her under his wing. Rebecca and Luke fall in love but there is a rival.
Especially funny moments are when Rebecca goes to her first shopaholic anonymous meting and the big dinner party.
It is nice to see a chick flick where men are not portrayed has hapless, scum, or hapless scum.
This fun comedy DVD has cameos by John Goodman, John Lithgow, Joan Cusack, and Kristin Scott Thomas.
