Zombieland
Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin
Directed by Ruben Fleischer
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment 2010

Zombieland is a great zombedy aka zombie comedy. There have been a few good ones recently, including Undead or Alive, Shaun of the Dead, and Fido. Zombieland is right up there with the best of them. In this comedy the laughs are more important than the zombie killing and there is plenty of that too. There is a sequel in the works.

Zombies have taken over the planet. Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg), a young man with OCD finds himself alone armed with a set of rules to deal with Zombies. He hooks up with a somewhat deranged guy named Tallahasee (a great performanced by Harrelson) and they end up hitching up with a young woman and her sister. These two are far from helpless dames.

They end up going to L.A. because the girls want to go to an amusement park that is said to be zombie free. Before they get there, they spend the night at a famous celebrity’s mansion. Telling you who that is would ruin the surprise and the comedy.

There is not much to this movie plot wise aside from the characters travelling around, encountering zombies, and killing them off. What makes it work is the well-defined, original characters, the writing, and how funny the scenes are.  Zombieland is mindless but not braindead entertainment, a great way to kill … an evening and have fun doing it.

Special features on the Zombieland DVD include a very wordy and basically useless commentary track, deleted scenes, and a couple of featurettes.
