A situation comedy titled Bored to Death is just asking for a burn. This HBO sitcom is original, entertaining, and rather funny though you need a bit of a particular or is it peculiar sensitivity for this sitcom to really work. Bored to Death The Complete First Season Blu-ray features 8 episodes on 2 discs. The special features are the same as on the DVD set.

Bored to Death opens with writer Jonathan Ames’ girlfriend leaving him because he smokes too much pot and drinks. Ames goes on Craigslist but instead of posting a personals on Craigslist he offers his services as an amateur private detective. Ames’ (Jason Schwartzman) best friend Ray (the always horrible and flat Zach Galifianakis) is a cartoonist. He occasionally writes pieces for a magazine run by George (Ted Danson), a very self-centered man.

Oddly enough, Jonathan’s first cases closely mimic his life. For example his first case involves a guy who cannot accept his girlfriend broke up with him and his second involves a mate who drinks too much. The colonic side story in episode two really could have been dropped and I could really have done without seeing Galifianakis in his tighty whities -well, I hope he was wearing some.

Especially good is episode 6 when Ray and George go with Jonathan on a stake out.

Bored to Death is an HBO situation comedy so expect adult situations and references.

The show has a good guest list including Jim Jarmush, Bebe Newirth, Parker Posey, and Patton Oswalt.

Special features for Bored to Death Season 1 Blu-ray are a Making of, Jonathan Ames Brooklyn, Deleted Scenes, and Audio Commentaries on some episodes.
