Brian Stollery’s 2023 stand-up comedy album He / he is excellent and original until you get to the last track.
Stollery is a smart comic who immediately engages his audience with a fun bit about having a smart car, the smart coming from his wife even if it doesn’t always work out. I really enjoyed how the stand-up dealt with the usage of correct pronoun by a comedic reference (as in check out the title of this download)
Stollery is a very biographical comic. This works because he is very likeable and self-deprecating. A few tracks are about Facebook Marketplace, a topic I have not come across before. These are some of the many highlights of He / he.
One of the best tracks on this stand-up comedy album is Killing 4 Netflix on how serial killers shoulc check with Netflix before their crime free if they want to be featured on it. This is a highly original routine.
The show closes with relationship comedy. It’s pretty good.
And now we come to the last track. Aside from the word titty Brian Stollery has been giving a perfectly clean show. He closes with a story about how he and his grandmother devised a trick so she would not get taken in by telemarketers’ grandson needing money scam. For some reason, the comedian drops a m…f…. bomb. I do not have a problem with comedians swearing, in fact I rather like nasty comics like Don Tjernagel and Darren Frost, but here I find it is just lazy writing and totally out of sync with the rest of the album.
