Seth MacFarlane?s Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy Uncensored
Seth MacFarlane
50 cartoons 1 DVD
Fox Home Entertainment 2009
56 minutes

Seth MacFarlane of Family Guy and American Dad fame also does funny short cartoons. The Seth MacFarlane’s Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy Uncensored features 50 animated shorts (30 seconds to a minute or so). Some of these are excellent, some quite good, and a few just juvenile and not funny. This is not a DVD for the kiddies.

All in all, this is a fun DVD to have if you like cartoons. MacFarlane pays homage aka makes fun of classic TV cartoons like The Flintstones and, my personal favorite, one where the Coyote finally gets the Roadrunner (for only the second time in history). Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy Uncensored also features one-joke very short bits and quite a few cartoons based on cultural icons like Super Mario, Mr. Sulu, Bob Dylan and Tom Waits, and so on and so on.

The 51 animated shorts here are of course adult oriented. This is not only because of language issues but also because some of references such as Mad Cow Disease, Magic Johnson, and Barry Gibb.

What is notable about this DVD is most of the cartoons do not overstay their welcome. Seth MacFarlane usually knows when the joke is over and not to milk it. A glaring exception is Fred Flintstone Takes a Sh!t which is not even funny the first time. It is nice to see Fred and Barney get another crack at being parodied but this one too is not the producer’s best one.

Personal favorites, aside from the Roadrunner bit, on Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy include Super Mario Rescues the Princess, The Wizard of Oz, Monkeys Talk About Religion, What the Bartender Said, and the cartoon that answers the age old question Why did the chicken cross the road.

If you are or know someone who is a fan of adult oriented cartoons, this DVD is a lot of fun.
