Legally Blonde 2 is a very enjoyable comedy, sequel or no sequel. Executive producer and star Reese Witherspoon knows Elle Woods is a fun character the audience likes and is smart enough to give Elle a new story where the character can grow instead of rethreading the first movie. Fans of this comedy will be in the pink now that it is available on Blu-ray.
The movie opens with Elle planning her big day with beau and law professor Emmett Richmond. No wedding is perfect without inviting your pet dog s mother. Elle finds out Bruiser s mother is in an animal testing facility and decides to free her or else. This means going to Washington, working for Congresswoman Libby Hauser (Sally Field), and getting a law banning animal testing.
The comedy repeats one of the Legally Blonde story arcs in that everybody dismisses Elle as a lightweight, she has her moments of doubt, and she becomes stronger and proves her detractors wrong. To do this Elle Woods uses her wits and her charm but her wits are her strongest weapon. If you want a girl-empowering movie Legally Blonde 2 Blu-ray is a good one.
Bob Newhart has an important supporting role as a Bob-Newhart like doorman who knows everything there is to know about Washington and helps Elle make contacts and strategize.
Elle discovers not everybody in Washington is who they seem to be but the Woods magic comes through in the end, of course.
This comedy Blu-ray may be light fare but by playing a strong woman character and bring up the issue of animal testing Witherspoon makes sure it is not just pink cotton candy.
Yes, the Congresswoman does quote the Wicked Witch of the West in one scene.
